Lost In America
Lost In America follows Rotimi Rainwater on his continuing journey to find out why America doesn’t care about its over 1 million homeless youth.
Most people think they know what it’s like to be on the street. Or, they think they can imagine what it would like to be on the streets; but they can’t. Life on the streets is lonely. It’s full of isolation, you feel invisible and hopeless.
Rotimi Rainwater experienced all of those feelings during the 9 months he spent living in my car, couch surfing, and on the streets of Orlando, Florida. Afterwards, he spent the next 22 years working my way up through the film industry. Which all culminated when he directed my first feature film, Sugar.
After directing Sugar, Rotimi realized that very little was being done to help the youth on the streets and was left with more questions than answers.
Questions like, why are there over 1.2 million homeless youth on the streets today? Why are there only 50,000 beds nationwide for these kids? Why are there over 5,000 animal shelters in our nation and only 420 youth shelters? And most importantly; why doesn’t our nation care about our homeless youth?
And that’s where this film starts. We’ve decided to find the answer to those questions.
